Mind-Body Therapy -
A Practical View

The Mind Body Spirit Connection and Healing

It is generally accepted that there is a mind-body connection. There is also little doubt that it significantly influences health. The spiritual connection may be less recognized but still, it has wide acceptance and can be a powerful component of healing.

Exactly how mind, body and spirit interact and support healing is mostly unknown. Many believe that by its very nature this is unknowable from a conscious mind perspective. Even how the body heals something as simple as a small cut is mostly a mystery. In spite of the mystery it is very clear that people respond to work with the mind body spirit relationship and it can have a powerful influence on painful and distressing symptoms.

Mind-Body Therapy

From a practical perspective this means there is a vital, life positive force that can be accessed through the different aspects of the mind-body-spirit connection. This allows help for health problems that are often unresponsive to other methods. Working in this way is what I mean when I use the term "mind-body therapy".

Practical Mind-Body Therapy

Many unresolved, long term, physical symptoms have a close and essential relationship with the mind that may not be apparent. Often this mind body link must be given attention in order for the physical symptoms to clear up completely and permanently.

With a client's permission mind-body therapy can be seamlessly incorporated into manual therapy. One way to include mind-body therapy in a session is to use somatoemotional release. It is an effective and gentle way to enhance work for many types of problems and can be tailored to the client's comfort.
